Trade Up During Bargain Season

Cruises always offer an incredible value for the dollar. That value is especially high between Labor Day and mid-December, a three-month period that typically boasts the year's lowest cruise prices.

Many cruise lovers pick this bargain season to trade up in level of accommodations, from inside to oceanview, oceanview to balcony, or balcony to suite. It's quite possible at this time of year to enjoy the extra space and luxury of a suite at the same price you might pay for a balcony or even a non-balcony oceanview -- on the same ship -- at another time of year.

Suite size and amenities -- and the perks that come with them -- vary quite a bit from suite to suite and ship to ship. For example, guests staying in Carnival's Spa Suites have private access to the ship's spa area, receive two free fitness classes per person and priority when making spa appointments.

Norwegian Cruise Line offers a complex of Villas and Suites called The Haven with access to a private sundeck with a pool, hot tub and fitness area. Guests in these suites also receive 24-hour butler and concierge service and priority embarkation.

In Celebrity's Penthouse Suites, you'll find a baby grand piano, a duel iPod/iPad docking station and a guest bathroom.

The Presidential Family Suites on Royal Caribbean accommodate up to 14 passengers in four bedrooms. There are also four bathrooms. The balcony features a private whirlpool, wet bar and dining area.

Royal Caribbean's Aqua Theater Suites feature wraparound balconies that overlook the Boardwalk "neighborhood" and unique Aqua Theater.

Crystal's Penthouse Suites offer a private workout studio and the spacious bathroom has an ocean view.

Guests staying in Deluxe Suites and Penthouse Suites on Holland America receive exclusive access to the Neptune Lounge, equipped with worktables, large screen television, library, sofas and chairs, special refreshments and concierge service.

The starting suite price appearing on our site will be the rate for the least expensive suite still available on that sailing, which in some cases may be a mini-suite or junior suite. These smaller suites may not include all of the extra services and amenities available to guests staying in larger suites.

However, we offer the lowest price you'll find on every category of suite, and our cruise counselors can check availability and provide a price and list of amenities and perks for any type of suite that interests you.

Please note that there are only a few suites in the top categories on each ship, and they are usually among the first staterooms on the ship to sell out.
